Description
Ordering this STEAM kit for Christmas? Please reach out to Events@jumpsimulation.org before December 16th for a no charge rush!
STEAM On Demand kits are available to purchase at anytime and are intended for you to complete on your schedule, at your own speed. Included in the kit is a link to a pre-recorded dissection lab taught by a clinical anatomist.
Lub-dub. Lub-dub. Lub-dub. One hundred thousand times a day. Thirty-five million times a year. Your heart is one of the most amazing parts of your body, working tirelessly to pump blood through your body. But what happens if someone’s heart is not working as well as it should?
Join the Jump engineering team as we dive into the inner workings of the heart. Students will receive an engineering “tool box” with everything they need to build a make-shift Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), a biomedical marvel that has helped hundreds of individuals around the world “keep the beat” with the rest of us.
Pulling together lessons in anatomy, physiology, fluid dynamics, and mechanic-electrical systems, this course aims to provide a hands-on experience of both how the heart works naturally, as well as the ways biomedical engineers have innovated to help those whose hearts need a little more care.
At the end of the course, students will have engineered and built a LVAD device, providing you with a working representation of the circulatory system. You can keep and demo it for your family! Join us for this virtual session. Don’t break our heart!
NOTE:
This kit contains latex balloons which will be sealed in a separate bag. An alternative solution will also be included in the kit for those with latex sensitivity or allergy.
